What Golden Globes?

Published 11:39 pm Sunday, January 13, 2008

We meant to watch the Golden Globes last night and tell you all about them, but then we stumbled upon “Perry Mason: The Case of the Avenging Ace” on the Hallmark channel, and we just couldn’t tear ourselves away.

If you’re glad you blinked and missed the awards, then we suggest you direct your attention to these tidbits from the animal kingdom:

“It’s so big and tame and wonderful.” So says the breeder of a 24-foot python named Fluffy that was recently purchased by the Columbus Zoo in Ohio.

The snake, which consumes two 10-pound rabbits a week, will surely be missed by its adoring breeder, but probably not by any of his neighbors with pets or small children.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is making a racket on the I-5 bridge over the Columbia River, firing air cannons and having workers pound on steel beams in an effort to scare away flocks of pesky starlings that slime the bridge.

If that doesn’t work, perhaps they should consider asking the Columbus Zoo if its python would like to come over for a snack.
