The Angel of the Winds Casino, owned by the Stillaguamish Indian Tribe, is expected to more than triple in size by the end of the year.
Construction has begun on an expansion to the casino that will add 84,000 square feet to the building, which is currently 22,000 square feet, said Eric Larsen, a spokesman for the tribe.
The tribe announced the expansion in a press release today. The casino’s Web site was updated today to include a Web cam that offers fresh glimpses of the construction every five minutes, Larsen said.
The expansion is expected to cost the tribe $44 million. It’s being funded through private bonds through Merrill Lynch, Larsen said. Four investors, all companies, are involved, he said.
The casino opened in October 2004. The expansion will include a restaurant, a gift shop, a lounge and more slot-style gaming machines, tables and poker rooms. More than 250 jobs are expected be added due to the expansion.
Most of the new space will be filled with Class III slot-style gaming machines, Larsen said.
