Mariners finish trade while everyone’s still young

The Mariners have finally completed their trade with the Orioles, swapping five players for left-handed pitcher Erik Bedard.

That trade’s been in the works for a long time — so long, in fact, that Seattle’s original offer was Harold Reynolds, Gaylord Perry and Darnell Coles.

For the first time in recent memory, KeyArena on Friday welcomed a team that actually wins once in a while. As of this morning, it’s Barack Obama, 15 wins, Sonics, 13 wins.

In addition to screaming their heads off, the 18,000 Obama fans performed a valuable janitorial service — their kiesters dusted off all the arena seats that have been empty this NBA season.

Speaking of screaming young fans, today marks the 44th anniversary of the Beatles’ first TV performance on the “Ed Sullivan Show,” according to the Today in History column.

In Federal Way, a public defender has admitted an intimate encounter with a municipal court judge, who resigned after disclosing the relationship (Page B8).

Funny, that’s not the way it works on “Boston Legal.”
