Constance L. Hawes
Constance L. Hawes, 76, born Feb. 8, 1926 in Spokane, left this sweet old world on Aug. 19, 2002.
Connie stopped hearts with her beauty in the jazz clubs of San Francisco in the 1950’s, until her own was captured by a handsome Navy Officer named Dave in 1952. Their love affair was a thing of such profound passion that it has no choice but to be reprised in the future, the natural fate of all true loves. Connie was a powerful enemy of injustice and inequality, and hatred feared her greatly for her ability to undermine its efforts on this earth. She flawlessly raised five children, who in gratitude gave her chattering multitude of loving grandchildren, the other loves of her life. Connie was a selfless woman in a world full of those pretending to be so. Her 20-plus years service to Stevens Memorial Hospital is but one example leading those within its halls to name her “The Legend.” This institution in particular and the world in general is forever diminished by Connie’s passing, and her family is inconsolable. Her beloved rose gardens are now salted by our tears. God now stands in awe of what he has created, and effusively welcomes her into his home.
Connie is survived by her mother, Eleanor, David, Joseph, Gayle, Mary, Richard, Sarah, and brothers and sisters.
A Celebration of her Life will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at Edmonds United Methodist Church.
