Fire Sirens

The Edmonds Fire Department made 88 responses during the week of Oct. 7-13, bringing the total for the year to 2,973.
Oct. 13
• Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 6600 block of 202nd Street SW where the attic rafters were on fire. The fire was extinguished and the attic ventilated.
• Medics responded to 12 calls which included two for alcohol abuse, two falls, two breathing difficulties and one each for chest pains, abdominal pains and cardiac problems.
Oct. 12
• An accident response was made in the 21000 block of 76th Avenue W. where a woman accidentally drove her car into the front of a beauty shop. Neither the driver nor a beauty shop patron who happened to be standing near the point of entry within the shop was injured.
• Another accident response was made at the same location on 76th Avenue W. involving a two car rear-end accident. One driver, complaining of neck pain, was transported to Stevens Hospital while the other driver was released.
• Medics responded to four medical calls for assistance.
Oct. 11
• Medics responded to 10 calls.
• A response was made to assist a homeowner in the 23200 block of 74th Avenue W. whose home was partially demolished by a mudslide. A broken water main had caused the destructive slide of mud and rocks resulting in part of her house being pushed across the road. The occupant of the damaged house and of the house next door were evacuated and the water department contacted to shut off the water main. The damaged house was red tagged until further inspection was made by a structural inspector.
• Firefighters responded to a gas leak in the 23000 block of 51st Avenue W. where the homeowner had broken the gas line while working in the yard. The firefighters stopped the leak with a wooden plug and tape while PSE was enroute.
Oct. 10
• Thirteen medical responses were made for a variety of problems including three seizures, two dizzy spells, three falls, one suicide attempt due tosevere depression, one individual who was choking before his airway was cleared and one drug overdose.
Oct. 9
• Medics responded to eight calls, one involving a woman who overdosed on Melatonin and another involving an assault victim.
• An accident response at 7600 block on Ballinger Way involved a low-impact, non-injury, two-car accident.
Oct. 8
• Medics were kept busy responding to eleven calls involving falls, chest pains, seizures, abdominal pains and one young woman experiencing laborcontractions who was quickly transported to Stevens Hospital for the birth of her first-born.
Oct. 7
• Medics responded to eight calls assisting those with an abdominal pain, a seizure, an irregular heart beat, diabetic complications and three individualssuffering from chest pains.
