Commended students named

Principal Fred H. Dahlem of Henry M. Jackson High School has named Paul D. Clark and Joshua R. Mullan Commended Students in the 2003 National Merit Scholarship Program.

A letter of commendation from the school and the organization will be presented to the students by the principal.

Registration deadline for ACT

High school students planning to attend college have two more chances to register to take the ACT assessment test before the Dec. 14 test.

The postmark registration deadline is Nov. 8, though students can register Nov. 21 with an additional fee for late registration.

The test fee is $28.

ACT scores are considered by colleges for admissions and course placement, and are accepted by most colleges and Ivy League schools nationwide.

Writing Week at Cedarwood Elem.

Nov. 15 will be the start of Cedarwood Elementary’s building-wide Writing Week. Assemblies with author/illustrator Paul Owen Lewis will be given and will include a documentary and slides of the making of his first book. Lewis’ motto is “Dreams pursued can come true.”

Cedarwood will also be having an all-school “Vocabulary Day” on Nov. 22.

McTeacher Night at Woodside Elem.

Woodside Elementary will be participated in McTeacher Night on Thursday, Oct. 24. Woodside faculty members will be behind the counters of the 164th and Bothell-Everett Highway McDonalds while friends and families dine.

Twenty percent of the proceeds earned will be donated to the school.

EvCC presents America’s Secret

Noted author and economist Dr. Michael Zweig will give a lecture Oct. 29 regarding his work as founding director of the Center for the Study of Working Class Life and his book The Working Class Majority: America’s Best-Kept Secret.

The free lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29 in the Jackson Center at Everett Community College and is open to the public.

Dr. Zweig will also be on campus Oct. 30 to meet with various groups and classes, and will discuss his book in the EvCC library at 1 p.m.

New director for Northshore district

Michael Cullum has been named Director of Infrastructure and Instructional Technology for the Northshore school district. He will begin his new assignment Oct. 28.

Cullum will be responsible for managing the Information Technologies Department and the growth of partnerships with other school districts and educational and community organizations.

Cullum’s background includes experience as the Technology Director of the Tigard-Tualatin School District in Tigard, Ore., and elementary teacher, and an adult computer literacy class instructor.

Apprentice Fair offered at EvCC

Everett Community College will hold an Apprenticeship and Trades Programs Information Fair to highlight apprenticeship and Trades programs that are offered in Western Washington on Wednesday, Oct. 30.

The event will be held in the Jackson Center on the main EvCC campus and will offer information about trades including Western Washington Masonry Trades, Cement Masons Apprenticeship Program, Northwest Labors Training Program, Western Washington Operating Engineers and many others. Free lecture on Wicca at EdCC

A Brown Bag Lecture on “Wicca, The Old Religion” will be held at Edmonds Community College from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the Triton Union Building on campus, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.

Rev. Judith Laxer, Priestess to the Goddess and practicing witch for over a decade, will offer her experiences and knowledge to those who attend.

Candidates forum on EvCC

Edmonds Community College is holding a candidates forum on Monday, October 28, 2002, from noon to 4 p.m. The Snohomish County League of Women Voters and the Snohomish County Democratic Central Committee (SCDCC) will be at the forum.

This event is being organized by EdCC graduate Rashida Harris.
