College, district mark milestones with joint dance

Shoreline Public Schools, the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation and the Shoreline Community College Foundation will celebrate a combined 100 years of public education with an evening of dancing and dessert with a “Big Band Celebration.”

The public event will be at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28 in the Grand PUB Ballroom at Shoreline Community College. Tickets are $15 per person at the door.

Award-winning jazz bands from Shorecrest and Shorewood high schools and Shoreline Community College will provide the big band swing-style music the likes of “In the Mood,” “Pennsylvania 6–5000,” and “Little Brown Jug,.”

The Shorecrest Swing Club will provide dance lessons between band performances.

Along with dancing, a dessert buffet provided by the Shorecrest Culinary Arts Program and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

The event marks the 60th anniversary of Shoreline Public Schools and the 40th year for Shoreline Community College.

The school district was chartered in 1944 and 20 years later, sponsored the opening of the college. The cities of Shoreline and Lake Forest Park as well as King County have all sponsored proclamations recognizing the combined efforts the school district and the college.

“We continue to have a strong relationship with our school district and partner on many programs to ensure serving our students and community to the best of our ability,” said SCC president Holly Moore. Jim Welsh, superintendent of Shoreline Public Schools said, “It’s a wonderful opportunity to have a strong K-20 system in our community. I am very proud of our long history of excellence in serving students, our strong staff and our quality instruction.”
