Celebrations set in Shoreline this week

Celebrations of alternative energy, food and community fun are in store this week for Shoreline residents, beginning today, Friday, July 20 with the kick off of the Shoreline Solar Project’s 4th annual Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair.
The fair’s opening night fundraising benefit features keynote speaker Alan Durning, a silent auction, “Haute Trash Fashion Show,” and refreshments.
Saturday’s events, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., include a Kid Zone, exhibits, vendors, speakers, and electronics recycling (fees may apply). The fair runs concurrently with the “new” Taste of Shoreline event, both at Meridian Park Elementary, 175th &Meridian, in Shoreline.
Returning after 10 years, the Taste of Shoreline will be a chance for fairgoers to sample a wide variety of menu items offered by Shoreline restaurants, diners, and grills. Sponsored by the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce, food choices will include barbecue ribs, barbecue beef sandwiches, corn on the cob, egg rolls, teriyaki on a stick, and gyro sandwiches, along with Mexican selections, ethnic drinks and desserts, and soft drinks.
Taste of Shoreline’s entertainment offerings will feature Rhythms of India dance, Cascade Elite Gymnastics demonstration, USA Karate demonstration, Belly dancing by Nalini, Samba, rumba and salsa with Dance Voyage Studio, Maurice Rouman playing traditional Egyptian music on Arabic lute; hip-hop performance; and Filipino music and dance. Entertainment begins at noon and runs until 6 p.m.

From 5:30-8:30 p.m.Wednesday, July 25, Shoreline’s annual Swingin’ Summer Eve takes over Cromwell Park at 18009 Corliss Avenue N. for an evening of music, games, food, face painting and a used book sale.
Children can participate in pre-concert games and activities in the wide open field at the park. The Shoreline Fire Department’s barbeque fundraiser returns again this year, followed by an evening of music from the group Soul Provider.
