E-W junior shines in Wesco boys golf meet

MUKILTEO — Edmonds-Woodway junior Ricky McDonald outdueled Dylan Goodwin of Kamiak and Jens Bracht of Shorecrest — both UW-bound seniors — to earn medalist honors by shooting a 3-under-par 33 at Harbour Point Golf Course on Monday.

“Ricky played a great round,” E-W coach Thomas Davis said. “He’s been a medalist in every match we’ve had.”

Defending 4A state champion Kamiak won the team competition with a score of 186. Goodwin shot 1-under 35 and Reid Martin shot even par 36 to lead the Knights.

E-W finished second with a score of 210, which pleased Davis.

“We play in one of the hardest leagues in the state,” Davis said. “My biggest thing is that we get better every day and keep competing.”

Bracht led Shorecrest by shooting 1-under 35.

Teammate Ajandra Singh finished with a score of 80 and Everett’s Greg Ellison and Cascade’s Kevin Shewfelt each shot 81.

Gallery Shootout: At Oak Harbor, Rachel Choi of Kamiak was the overall winner, shooting 79. Strong performances by Shannon Nicholas and Chelsea Adams of Snohomish earned their team the victory.
