Memorial Day closures

Memorial Day is today. Here are some closures and schedule changes:

Government: Federal, state and local offices are closed.

Schools: Closed, including colleges.

Post offices: Closed, although express mail service continues.

Commerce: Most businesses and banks are closed. Malls and many retail stores are open.

Transportation: Everett Transit and Community Transit are on Sunday schedules. Information is at www.communitytransit.org. For state ferry information, call 511 or 888-808-7977.

The Herald: Classified advertising and the lobby will be closed. For home delivery customer service, call between 7:30 and 11:30 a.m., 425-339-3200. Report news tips by calling 425-339-3428.

Sno-Isle libraries seek comments

The Sno-Isle Libraries plans several open houses to learn what its patrons might like to see at libraries in the future.

The open houses are part of the library district’s five-year strategic plan.

Open houses are set for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23300 58th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace; 7 p.m. June 3 at the Snohomish Library, 311 Maple Ave., Snohomish; and 4 p.m. June 11 at the Freeland Library, 5495 Harbor Ave., Freeland.

Librarians hope to learn how patrons feel about a variety of topics, including hours, access to popular books, DVD selections and more.

Patrons are also invited to complete a brief survey on future library enhancements at www.sno-isle.org.

Stanwood-Camano cancer relay

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Stanwood-Camano Cancer Survivors invites the public to a two-day Luminaria Relay Ceremony 6 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday at the Stanwood High School stadium, 7400 272nd St. NW, Stanwood.

Organizers plan to place paper bags filled with candles around the Stanwood High School track, while cancer survivors, illuminated by the hundreds of candles, walk or jog a lap.

Participants can enjoy music, entertainment and food while building team spirit to help fight cancer.
