Table Top Gardener

What: The makers of the Table Top Gardener like to say the portable tray lets a gardener work inside the living room. That may sound like a good way to end up with dirt spilled on the carpet, but, as the company also notes, this device has advantages for someone working in limited space. The device could be a boon for an apartment or condo resident who never plans to move a plant from a windowbox to a flower bed.

Advantages: The green, heavy-duty plastic device is reasonably priced at $13.95. It can keep a gardener focused on repotting plants when rain might otherwise discourage garden work altogether, helping them move operations indoors. Its size — 23 ½ inches wide, 21 inches deep and 6 inches high — provides ample work space. And with handles along its sides, a narrow tray in its rear and a deep grove in its front, the Table Top Gardener has some design advantages over a simple plastic tub.

Limitations: Speaking of simple plastic tubs, the Table Top Gardener only improves on those in small ways, noted earlier. Its expense, though slight, could be entirely avoided if there’s already a well-suited plastic tray kicking around the garage.
