King’s Schools alum John Oh spoke at the King’s Shoreline campus June 4, days after he graduated in the top one percent of his 995 member cadet class at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Second Lieutenant Oh, a 2004 graduate of King’s Schools graduated on May 31 at Michie Stadium, New York. He completed his studies at West Point last month and was awarded the Five Point Gold Star, the Gold Wreath Award and the Commandant Award for physical, military and academic program excellence. Oh, his parents Se Young (Henry) and In Cha (Marie), two sisters and former coach from King’s, Myrle Carner, attended a dinner with General George M. Casey, a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, following the graduation ceremony.
Oh credits his experiences as a King’s student for giving him the fortitude to successfully complete his four years at West Point, according to a press release.
“My time at King’s was instrumental in two ways,” he said. “The educational process and the spiritual foundation gave me the basis to make it here at West Point.”
Oh will visit his family in Seattle for a brief leave this month. He will then depart for Seoul, South Korea, to join the staff of the U.S. Army Department of Finance.
