With a song in our hearts

Mama Mia: It’s been called a president’s first big decision. No, not picking a running mate. We’re talking about the campaign song.
Bill Clinton’s supporters rallied ‘round Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop.” JFK had “High Hopes.” And this year, Barack Obama’s supporters are groovin’ to Ben Harper’s “Better Way,” while John McCain’s campaign has found inspiration in “Take a Chance on Me,” by the ’70s Swedish pop group ABBA.
While taste in music matters little to presidential worthiness, we’re hoping McCain doesn’t take a fashion cue from ABBA and start wearing a white leather jumpsuit.
Lucky dog: Pet food maker Purina will soon offer pet health insurance under the name PurinaCare.
With inflation and fuel costs eating up more of our paychecks, we’ll now be able to turn to the same company for health insurance and meals. Not for our pets. For ourselves.
Very confusing: Three residents of the Greek island of Lesbos are suing a homosexual group for using the word “lesbian.” The women of Lesbos, they claim, hesitate calling themselves Lesbians (Page A4).
We imagine the men of Lesbos also hesitate calling themselves Lesbians.
