Texting can be hazardous to your health

Don’t walk and text. Doctors are warning that you run the risk of bodily harm if you’re so engrossed in text messaging that you don’t watch where you’re going. There have been scattered reports of people falling off curbs or crashing into walls.

Most of the injuries have been minor, but there’s a risk you could die of embarrassment if you walk into a lamppost in front of a crowd.

Meanwhile, an online service lets you sign up to send yourself text messages. The reminders can help you manage your daily life by leaving notes for your future self, such as “Pick up the dry cleaning” or “Don’t walk into a tree.”

And Microsoft has been busy online. It found that the “six degrees of separation” theory is pretty close to being on the money. Using its instant-messaging service, it found that on average, people could be linked through less than seven acquaintances.

An excited Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer quickly told old pal Bill Gates, who was on an episode of “Frasier” with Kelsey Grammer, who was in “Even Money” with Forest Whitaker, who was in “The Air I Breathe” with, yup, Kevin Bacon.
