Chris Polk has a torn labrum, might Fogerson start? and other notes.

Tyrone Willingham just met with reporters, and the biggest news is that freshman tailback Chris Polk, the starter in each of Washington’s first two games, has a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

Willingham said it hasn’t been decided yet, but that Polk will probably have surgery on his shoulder, which would end his season. If he does, Polk woul likely be able to get a medical redshirt so he doesn’t lose a year of eligibility.

Earlier today, freshman tailback turned safety Johri Fogerson told a few reporters that he will start this weekend, but both Willingham and defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said that decision hasn’t been made yet. Both did agree that Fogerson should see a significant amount of playing time, however.

The starting safeties on this week’s depth chart are Nate Williams and Tripper Johnson.

Willingham didn’t spend a lot of time on talking about yesterday’s news that EJ Savannah is seeking a transfer, but did have a few comments.

“To me it’s very disappointing anytime anyone leaves your program for any reason or any circumstances,” he said. “We’ve spent as a staff, as a community, a lot of time and energy trying to assist and trying to help. So that is disappointing when you invest that kind of investment and you don’t get any kind of return. But again, the goal and the hope is for all of the young men to be successful and if this is the best rout for him to be successful, then we want to help him do that.”

He added that, “I think this one was more his desire at this point. I’ve always held an open door and still continue to hold open doors for all of our young men.”
