Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood will present a musical Evening Vespers service Sept. 28 featuring a complete performance of Cantata 51, Jauchzet Gott in allen Landan (Praise God in All Lands) by J.S. Bach.
This cantata, most likely written in 1730 and one of Bach’s most beloved, is scored for soprano soloist, trumpet and strings. Singing the soprano part will be Emily Herivel, with George Steward on trumpet.
Herivel, an Edmonds native and recent vocal performance graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, studied voice with Janeanne Houston and Dr. James Brown. Since graduating she has started singing opera, most recently with the Seattle Academy of Baroque Opera, and she is a member of Choral Arts Northwest.
Featured trumpet soloist George Steward is well known to the Edmonds area as Principal Trumpet for the Everett Symphony, Cascade Symphony, and the Evergreen City Ballet Orchestra. Steward is also a member of Brass Reflections Quartet, Northwest Herald Trumpets, and the Andy Werth Band.
The service will also include evening prayer led by mezzo-soprano Julie Johnson, and the Sinfonie in D of Alessandro Scarlatti, featuring Silke Harper on alto recorder and Stewart on trumptet.
String players include Begin Judd Scarseth and Lin Chen on violin, Raylene Ewing on viola, and Tim Pizzichemi on cello.
Continuo will be played on Trinity’s Martin Pasi organ, as Bach most likely did for his cantata performances in Leipzig, Germany.
