Sparling names new vice chairman of ACEC

Sparling has stepped up its national leadership with Jim Duncan being elected as Vice Chairman of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), an organization representing more than 300,000 engineers, land surveyors, scientists, and other consultants responsible for more than $100 billion of private and public projects throughout the country. Sparling is a national company providing electrical engineering, technology and audiovisual consulting, acoustical and lighting design.
Duncan took office as vice chairman of ACEC in May for a two-year term as one of six vice chairs and nine officers. He is a member of the executive committee and on the board of directors. The ACEC executive committee provides overall financial and strategic oversight of ACEC’s priorities.
In his new role, Duncan is the national officer ACEC liaison with leadership responsibilities in Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin. He will be traveling to attend and meet with members in seven states. Duncan will be speaking at ACEC conferences and attending board meetings in each state, in addition to lobbying Congress and attending executive committee and board meetings in Washington DC.
Duncan is chairman of the board and chief engineer of Sparling. He is an ACEC Fellow and former chair of the ACEC Information Technology task force. Duncan has held all the ACEC-Washington officer positions, including President, and was named ACEC Washington Engineer of the Year in 1999. He was the engineer on the national AIA Integrated Practice Working Group researching the benefits of BIM as related to sustainable and integrated design strategies.
