E-W wins South Whidbey Invite

LANGLEY — Edmonds-Woodway defeated Kennedy 25-17, 25-17 in the finals of the 16-team South Whidbey Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday at South Whidbey High School.
Edmonds-Woodway defeated Chelan in the first playoff round 25-12, 25-23. Edmonds-Woodway went 5-1 in pool play splitting with Nooksack Valley 25-4, 23-25 and defeating Cascade Christian and Coupeville with scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-13, 25-15, respectively.
Lynnwood fell to Chelan 25-12, 25-20 in the 3rd/4th place game. Lynnwood fell out of contention for a tournament championship when Kennedy defeated them in the first playoff round. Lynnwood won each match in pool play defeating Port Townsend, Sultan and Woodland.
Meadowdale’s 18-25, 25-18, 6-15 loss to Nooksack Valley landed them in sixth place of the tournament. Meadowdale was the second seed in its pool behind Chelan. Meadowdale defeated South Whidbey (25-22, 23-22) and Cascade Christian (25-10, 25-23) in pool play and defeated Cascade in the first playoff round with a score of 25-17, 25-16.
Wenatchee Invite Tournament: At Wenatchee, Marysville-Pilchuck didn’t drop a single game going 5-0 and winning the eight-team Wenatchee Invite Saturday at Wenatchee High School. Three different Tomahawk players had more than 25 kills on the day with Jenna Welsh, Emily Boerger and Mikayla LaRosa making 26, 25 and 28 kills, respectively. Setter Brittany Fitzmaurice had 103 assists on the day and outside hitter Cali Cull was 35-for-36 serving with nine aces. Libero Jacelyn Thompson had 49 digs. M-P def. North Sound Christian 3, Grace Academy 0: At Lynnwood, Junior outside hitter Tori Speck had five aces, four kills, and three digs in the 25-12, 25-9, 25-8 victory over Grace Academy. NSC freshman setter Malorie Mahler had five aces, four kills and 15 assists and teammate Catherine Oakland had five aces and two kills. Records—NSC 3-0 overall. GA 0-3.
