Sugery for Davenport, and a few other notes

So much attention was placed on new injuries (Jake Locker, Donald Butler, David Freeman, D’Andre Goodwin) during Monday’s press conference that no one bothered asking about some of the lingering injuries that have been hurting the Huskies.

During today’s Pac-10 coaches teleconference, we asked Willingham about the injuries that have kept cornerback Byron Davenport and safeties Darin Harris and Victor Aiyewa out for most of the season. Willingham said Harris’ concussion is taking a little longer than they had hoped, and that it is still unknown how soon he will return. Aiyeway (groin) may start practicing this week in a limited role, but how much he can do is yet to be determined.

But the most unexpected news from Willingham is that Davenport will be having knee surgery soon. Davenport hurt his ankle during fall camp, and we were under the assumption that that injury was still keeping him out, but Willingham said today that an old knee injury is bothering Davenport now. The call got cut short before we could get any more info on this, so we’ll have to wait until tomorrow when we can ask Willingham, and hopefully Davenport, about the injury.

Another big blow to the Huskies was yesterday’s news, which was reported by Realdawg.com that Deandre Coleman, who in August made a verbal commitment to Washington, is now looking at other options. Coleman, a defensive tackle from Seattle’s Garfield High, is considered the state’s top recruit.

Finally, a little plug here for an appearance I made yesterday on UDubsports.com’s Dawgcast. You can find more Husky coverage from UDubsports.com at http://washington.rivals.com/
