Prep volleyball/tennis: Edmonds-Woodway to go into league matches off a victory

EDMONDS — In the final tune-up before conference play starts, Edmonds-Woodway defeated Everett in three sets, 25-22, 25-18, 25-14, Wednesday at Edmonds-Woodway High School.
“It was a good way to close out the preseason,” E-W head coach Mike Pittis said. “Both teams did a pretty good job of competing.”
The first set went back and forth, with both teams scoring points in spurts. The Warriors (3-2 overall) were able to battle back thanks to what Pittis said was excellent play from its middle blockers.
“I was really impressed with our middles,” Pittis said, referring to Hannah Lauber, Katy Olson and sophomore Syd Donaldson. “All of them really stepped up tonight.”
Cailin Fellows had the charge for E-W with 14 kills and 11 digs, Louber had eight kills, two blocks and two aces, Haley Scott had six kills and two blocks and Leigh Fishback added 38 assists and seven digs.
Everett (4-2) was led by seniors Ally Lund (five kills and nine digs), Kelli Wilner (seven blocks 11 digs) and Mollie Postma (16 assists).
Now the Warriors are looking forward to the challenges and rigors of Wesco South play.
“We had a pretty strong preseason,” Pittis said, “so that should give us a pretty good idea of where we are … we have to keep getting better.
“We’re just excited and seeing some really good volleyball out of the western conference…everybody’s excited to get going with the regular season.”
Lynnwood 3, Lake Stevens 1: At Lynnwood, Kelsie Larson had seven kills and Laycee Hill added 38 assists to help Lynnwood (4-1) take a 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 27-25 non-conference victory over Lake Stevens (1-4). Brooke Larsen had four aces for Lake Stevens and converted 16 of 16 serving opportunities.
Archbishop Murphy 3, South Whidbey 0: At Everett, Archbishop Murphy (6-0 league and overall) was able to keep its unbeaten streak alive, defeating South Whidbey (3-3) 25-22, 25-16, 25-16 in the Cascade Conference match at Archbishop Murphy. The Wildcats’ racked up 39 kills, 30 assists, 18 digs and 14 blocks as a team. Ashley Broadwell had 14 kills, Becca Gotz 11 kills and Kelsey Kohler 24 assists for Archbishop Murphy.
Cedarcrest 3, Coupeville 0: At Duvall, Crystal Canady had 14 digs, Shannon Bailey added 10 kills and Lindsey Smith chipped in 15 assists to help Cedarcrest (4-2) take a 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 Cascade Conference victory. Coupeville (1-5) was led by Linde Maertens’ 11 kills.
King’s 3, Granite Falls 0: At Granite Falls, Anna Cesari had 30 assists and three aces, Laura Friar and Jordan Irish each added 10 kills and undefeated King’s (6-0) rolled to a 25-12, 25-15, 25-20 Cascade Conference victory over Granite Falls (2-4). Granite Falls’ Monesa Moore added eight kills.
Lakewood 3, Sultan 0: At Marysville, Liliya Kibitskaya had 12 kills and five aces, Peyton Mizell added 20 assists and Megan Eby had three blocks to lead Lakewood (2-4 league and overall) to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-16 Cascade Conference victory over Sultan (0-6).
