Holmgren on Taylor: ‘He wasn’t quite ready’

RENTON — Seattle Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said that the decision to release Courtney Taylor came because the wide receiver had not lived up to expectations.

“He had a chance early on,” Holmgren said Wednesday. “We wanted him to be our starting flanker. And he wasn’t quite ready to handle it.

“… I think he has a bright future, but it’s just that he needs a little more seasoning, in my opinion. That’s why we did it.”

The Seahawks released Taylor on Tuesday, replacing him with Jordan Kent.

Taylor was re-signed to the practice squad Wednesday, when he took part in practice.

“Anytime you lose a job, it’s pretty tough,” he said after Wednesday’s practice. “But at the same time, you take it for what it is and you keep getting better. That’s my whole goal. I’ve got to work to get better.”
