This week’s featured home is an eco-friendly, three-bedroom home with 2.5 bathrooms and a two-car garage.

The craftsman-style home is located in Mukilteo and just minutes from the ferry landing. The two-story floor plan stretches over 2,240 square feet and also includes a basement that encompasses a windowless media room.

The home was built by Cottage Werks, which specializes in responsible development homes that have limited impact on their natural surroundings.

Placement of the home on the lot, the materials used, concerns about indoor air quality and water run-off, as well as selection of energy savings features are all taken into account in the design.

The home’s numerous amenities include maple flooring, a maple block kitchen center island, Brazilian cherry flooring and painted, wood-wrapped windows.

An expansive great room includes family and dining areas and a kitchen. Nine-foot French doors open from the kitchen to an expansive outdoor cedar deck enhanced by cobblestone pavers.

The interior of the home has a sprinkler system, solid-core doors, skylights, Cat V wiring with an On-Q panel, an alarm system, wiring for surround sound and vaulted ceilings.

Energy efficiency is created by a hydronic heat system with thermostats individually controlled in each room, low-energy radiant heat mats in the bathroom, low flush toilets, Energy Star-rated appliances and a sealed, wood-burning fireplace.

The kitchen benefits from two separate center islands, each topped with a maple block. A drop-down range slips into one island and a stainless steel sink into the other. Both have drop-down lighting with hand-blown glass fixtures.

An informal dining area buffers the kitchen and family rooms. Family room features include a wood-burning fireplace with a soapstone hearth and border framed by a Brazilian cherry surround. The room is bathed in natural light emanating from four windows.

The master suite dominates the upstairs. Highlights include a vaulted ceiling with twin skylights, large windows, Berber carpeting and two separate closets with wood organizers. In between the closets are built-in drawers and a cabinet that provide additional storage space.

The claw foot tub is in the master bathroom, along with radiant tile flooring, a walk-in shower with a frosted glass enclosure, a vaulted ceiling with a skylight, built-in maple cabinets and a medicine cabinet with a vanity mirror.

Bedrooms two and three have vaulted ceilings, three windows, two-tone paint and standard closets with wood organizer systems.

Features in the full bathroom include a ceramic tile floor, a vaulted ceiling with a skylight, a single vanity topped with a laminate top, a shower/tub combination and a medicine cabinet with a mirrored vanity.
