UW vs. Notre Dame game thread

Notre Dame 33, Washington 0, 12:33 left in fourth quarter

And after a 3-yard touchdown run, the Huskies are down by 33. And to think, this was a game we thought the might win before the season started.

The Huskies now have 51 yards of offense and four first downs. And since it just might come into play, we’ll tell you that the school record for offensive futility is 61 yards in a 1948 game.

This will do it for the blog until after the game.

Notre Dame 27, Washington 0, 4:31 left in third

It looked like the Irish were going to have to punt for the first time today, but a fake punt was run 35 yards, eventually setting up a field goal. The good news this half? The Huskies have two sacks. The bad? Everything else.

Oh, and the Huskies still haven’t gotten the ball past midfield. Good times here at what’s now about a half-full Husky Stadium.

Notre Dame 17, Washington 0, halftime

It’s probably not a good sign when people in the press box are going through their media guides at halftime wondering when the Huskies last were shut out at home. The answer, by the way, is 1976 when Cal beat Washington 7-0. Right now, the Huskies look like they could be headed for a repeat of that. Washington has just 38 yards of offense and has not gotten the ball past midfield yet, and Ronnie Fouch is just one of nine for five yards.

Notre Dame, on the other hand, has 238 yards, including 104 on the ground. That’s better than the team’s per-game average coming into today’s game. Through six games, the Irish averaged 101.17 yards per game, ranking them 108th nationally. Nothing like a UW defense to help an offense get better.

Notre Dame 17, Washington 0, 11:10 left in 2nd quarter

Sorry for the lack of updates, having some internet issues up here. But if you’re a Husky fan reading this, not knowing what’s going on might be better. Pretty much nothing is going right for the Huskies, who even manage to have an interception turn into a negative play.

With Notre Dame going for it on fourth down from the UW 32, Nate Williams intercepted a pass near the goal line, and was taken out by teammate Mesphin Forrester at the 1-yard line. A dropped pass on third down led to a short punt that put the Irish in field-goal range.

So far the Huskies have just 22 yards to 159 for the Irish, and have just two first downs.

Notre Dame 14, Washington 0, 7:48 left in 1st quarter

Husky fans and coaches aren’t happy after Notre Dame’s second touchdown. After another UW three and out, Notre Dame drove for its second touchdown in as many possessions. The Irish got help from a pass interference call that looked a little suspect, though to be honest I only saw one reply of it. Nate Williams had an interception on that play, so obviously it made a huge difference.

Three plays later on third-and-seven, receiver Golden Tate took a reverse 21 yards for a touchdown.

Could be another long night for the Huskies.

Notre Dame up 7-0 early

Well it didn’t take long for the Irish to jump ahead. Washington went three and out and had to punt. After a pair of runs, Jimmy Clausen hit freshman receiver Michael Floyd with a short pass that Floyd turned into 51-yard touchdown.

Husky captains today are Chris Stevens, Paul Homer, Daniel Te’o-Nesheim and Juan Gacia.

Notre Dame won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Washington will start with the ball. A few more empty seats right now than I’d have thought, but perhaps people are still just making their way in from tailgating and such. Or maybe even Notre Dame’s presence isn’t enough to get people out to watch. I guess we’ll know in the next few minutes as the crowd fills in.
