UW vs. USC game thread

USC still much better than Washington

And if anyone cares, it’s 48-0 now. We’re still in the third quarter, and USC is already pretty deep in its bench. About the only intrigue left is to see just how badly the Huskies will lose, and if they’ll avoid their first shutout since losing 38-0 here in 2004.

Oh, and North Texas did win today, meaning Washington is the only winless team in college football. And yes, I am assuming a loss here today.

USC 42, Washington 0, halftime

It would probably be 49-0 right now had the Trojans not let the clock run out in the first half with the ball in UW territory.

USC now has 18 first downs to two for Washington, and the Huskies only drive into USC territory came thanks to two 15-yard penaties. USC has out-gained Washington 325-35, and by the end of the half was using a tailback who isn’t on the depth chart.

As the teams come back on the field, it looks like a lot of fans decided to beat the traffic and call it a day. Can’t say I blame them either.

USC 35, Washington 0, 9:06 left in 2nd quarter

So the Huskies avoided punting for the first time. Granted it took Ronnie Fouch throwing an interception to avoid another three-and-out, but hey, it’s something different, right? The interception by linebacker Rey Maualuga gave USC the ball at the UW 16, leading to a two-play scoring drive.

Washington so far has not moved the ball past its own 26 yard line.

Between this game and the WSU vs. Stanford game, Washington schools are down 93-0 right now. Good times.

USC 21, UW 0, end of 1st quarter

USC thoroughly dominated that quarter, holding the Huskies to 14 yards while gaining 165. Washington doesn’t have a first down yet, and has now punted on 13 of its last 14 possessions going back to last week’s loss to Notre Dame. USC has nine first downs to Washington’s zero.

USC 14, UW 0, 4:29 left in 1st quarter

Well, this game is starting off about as everyone would expect. Two three-and-outs for Washington have led to two touchdowns for the Trojans. Mark Sanchez in currently eight for nine for 85 yards and two touchdowns, both to Patrick Turner.

The Huskies meanwhile, have zero rushing yards and 10 passing yards.

And make that three three-and-outs now for the Huskies, who are about to punt again.

The Huskies are also at risk of becoming the country’s only winless Division I-A team today, as North Texas is up on Western Kentucky in the third quarter.

PREGAME

We’re just a couple minutes from kickoff here at the Los Angeles Coliseum. USC just won the toss and deferred to the second half, meaning the Huskies will start with the ball.
