Prep football: Darrington eliminated in 2B playoff

SAMMAMISH — After a 10-1 2007 season a slew of seniors graduated and a rebuilding year was expected by this year’s Darrington football program.

“A lot of people didn’t expect us to do well,” Darrington head coach Chad Monteith said.

Darrington wasn’t expected to win many games, much less find themselves in a three-way playoff for a berth in the 2B state tournament with Life Christian and Tacoma Baptist. Unfortunately, the scrappy Loggers were defeated by Life Christian 26-10 in a half game Tuesday, dashing their hopes of consecutive berths in the state tournament.

Darrington scored first on a 25-yard Stormee Brown field goal. Mike Parris continued the scoring for the Loggers, rushing for a 90-yard touchdown later in the first quarter. Parris had 117 yards in the contest on just five carries.

Life Christian got on a roll in the second quarter, rallying for 19 unanswered points.
