Happy 70th, Everett Garden Club

The Everett Garden Club is celebrating its 70th birthday at 11 a.m. today at Memorial Community Church, 710 Pecks Drive in Everett.

The program will include a lesson on making flower designs with plant material.

Donations of warm clothing needed

The Lake Stevens Family Center is collecting coats for families in need for the winter. Hats, gloves and scarves are also needed.

Anyone may bring their clean, gently used coats and blankets to the Family Center, located behind Lake Stevens City Hall at 1803 123rd Drive NE.

Discover children’s books at reading

Arlington Library has scheduled a family evening that features readings by Linda Byrnes.

The program, Old Favorites, New Discoveries: A Celebration of Children’s Books, is set for 7 this evening at the library, 135 N. Washington Ave.

Learn what the most popular kid’s books are and discover some new reading treasures.

Also, children’s book artist Kathleen Kemly offers a program for the library’s Children’s Book Festival, set for 7 p.m. Nov. 20, also at the library. Kemly plans a lesson in illustration and creating funny characters.

Camano Chamber receives tax funds

Island County recently released the list of nonprofit organizations set to get hotel-motel tax revenues in 2009 for tourism promotion.

The projects and activities funded by the 2 percent tax are set to receive a total of $94,000.

Camano Island Chamber of Commerce is to receive $11,665 for visitor information staffing and tourism marketing.

Other groups receiving money include Greater Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce, $21,386; Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce, $18,470; Langley Chamber of Commerce, $18,470; Freeland Chamber of Commerce, $13,609; Clinton Chamber of Commerce, $5,832; Coupeville Arts Center, $1,458; Penn Cove Water Festival, $972; and Whidbey Island Vintners, $972.

Learn about birds of the Bering Sea

The November meeting of Pilchuck Audubon Society features a presentation by photographer Ray White. He will show his photos of birds of Alaska’s Bering Sea.

All are welcome. The meeting is planned for 7 p.m. Friday at the Everett Firefighters Hall, 2411 Hewitt Ave. in Everett.
