Lorenzo Romar, who is celebrating his 50th birthday today, met with reporters today to talk about Saturday’s opener at Portland and his team in general.
He pointed out that Portland is no easy opener, noting that the Pilots played the Huskies close in Seattle last year, and return pretty much everybody from that team, so this should be a good test for Washington.
And for those wondering about letters of intent, Romar plans to talk about signings Friday once they’ve got everyone in. He did say he’s not expecting any surprises, so there’s likely nothing to worry about. It sounds like Romar would rather just deal with it once all four signees are in.
As for this weekend’s game, Romar anticipates going with the same starting lineup as the exhibition game against Western: Jon Brockman, Quincy Pondexter, Isaiah Thomas, Justin Dentmon and Darnell Gant. Matthew Bryan-Amaning is doubtful for the game, Romar said, after taking “a nasty spill” in practice last weekend. Romar said the sophomore forward hurt his hip, knee and ankle in the fall, but said the injury isn’t a long-term concern.
Romar said he’s expecting that Tyreese Breshers, who is still recovering from surgery on his shins, should be able to play by early December, but also said redshirting Breshers is a possibility depending on how his recovery goes.
