Christmas services

Church of God Prophecy offers a free gift-wrapping event from 1 to 5 p.m. today at 3004 23rd St., Everett to raise funds for the church’s youth group.

The service is held on the longest night of the year and is designed for those experiencing grief following the loss of a loved one, family crisis, health or economic issue.

Those who attend can light a candle or say something about their loss.

Christian Faith Center-North in Mill Creek plays host to “One Birth Changed Everything,” a Christmas Northwest musical at 9:30 and 11:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday at 13000 21st Drive SE, Everett.

The program includes traditional and contemporary Christmas music and strolling carolers. Organizers plan to give gift packets to children while supplies last. Free evening hay rides are scheduled following the 6 p.m. performance. The church’s bookstore and espresso bar also are set to be open.

Hanukkah

Temple Beth Or hosts a Hanukkah service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 3215 Lombard Ave., Everett led by Rabbi Marna Sapsowitz with Bernie Busch on guitar. The service includes singing and Shabbat prayers. Those who attend are encouraged to bring menorahs for the Hanukkah lighting.

Snohomish Church of the Nazarene presents a production of the Christmas cantata “King of Kings” at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at 1017 13th St., Snohomish. A Christmas potluck follows.

A traditional candlelight service is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday with a dessert potluck following.

Trinity Episcopal Church offers a candlelight Advent labyrinth walk from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at 2301 Hoyt Ave., Everett.

The walk is designed for those who experience grief during the holidays. Tracie Jansen, a grief counselor, plans to be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance.

The walk features a 32-foot Chartres-style labyrinth canvas provided by Laurie Crawford, a member of Trinity Episcopal. Chloe Wilcox, a harpist, plans to provide music to accompany the walk, which symbolizes the steps of Mary and Joseph as they traveled to Bethlehem.

Everett First Baptist Church presents “Merry Christmas Mr. Jones” with Scott Bettis for an evening of music, drama and desserts at 7 p.m. tonight and 4 p.m. Sunday at 1616 Pacific Ave., Everett.

Bettis is a member of the Master Image Theater Co. in Salem, Ore.

The drama tells the story of Mr. Jones, a department store Santa Claus who is not as jolly as the children think he is. Local musician Jason Jodock plans to lead a jazz quartet, inviting audience participation before the drama.

The cost is $5 per person or $15 for four. Preschool child care will be provided. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

The program is designed for children ages 7 to 12. Organizers plan to give each child who attends a free gift.

Wilson, who experienced being homeless as a child, is the president and founder of Metro Ministries International, one of America’s largest ministry to children.
