Gift-making event for teens today
The Mountlake Terrace Library offers a holiday gift-making event for teens at 1 p.m. today.
Organizers plan to offer materials and instructions for do-it-yourself projects such as making jewelry from items found at the hardware store and glass refrigerator magnets. The event includes games, free hot apple cider and cookies.
The library is at 23300 58th Ave. W., Mountlake Terrace.
What to feed hummingbirds
Susie Schaefer, vice president of the Pilchuck Audubon Society, which serves Snohomish County and Camano Island, says “Anna’s Hummingbirds” are widespread in our area during the winter.
She suggests feeding them a mixture of four cups of water to one cup of sugar. And don’t add red dye.
“The reasons that they stay here in the winter are not entirely clear and may be related to a number of factors,” Schaefer said. “The other summer hummingbirds that migrate to Washington, like the Rufous Hummingbird, do migrate south in the winter.”
EvCC holiday closures posted
Everett Community College will be closed all day Thursday and Friday and Jan. 1.
Winter quarter registration will continue through the holidays. Winter quarter starts Jan. 5.

Concert and tour at Blackman House
A string quartet will perform at the Blackman House Museum in Snohomish at 3 p.m. Sunday.
At 1 p.m., a member of the Snohomish Historical Society will lead a tour through the museum and tell the story of how the society came to own the house.

Limited liquor sales on holidays
All state-run liquor stores will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Contract liquor stores may be open on those days.
