Holt’s contract is a big one

So maybe it wasn’t just the idea of having full control of a defense that convinced Nick Holt to come to Washington. The UW just released his contract information, and Holt will become, by far, the highest paid assistant in Washington history.

The total contract is worth $2.1 million over three years. Holt will make $600,000 in the first year and $650,000 in years two and three. Holt also gets a $200,000 retention bonus that is payable up front, but has to be returned all or in part, on a sliding scale, if he were to leave before the end of the contract. Holt was reportedly making about $500,000 per year at USC.

Recently hired offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Jim Michalczik will make $350,000 per year, and that had been the largest contract for a UW assistant before Holt’s hiring.

And just a reminder that Holt’s press conference is at 12:30 this afternoon and it will be streaming live on gohuskies.com.
