What happens in Vegas…

Where does coffee come from? (Hint: We don’t mean the coffee hut on the corner.) If you’d like to learn more about the Northwest’s drug of choice, you should visit the Burke Museum.

We raise our coffee mugs to the tour guides and suggest they have a cup of java themselves. It may help in shepherding a group of hyped-up coffee fans through the exhibit while at the same time keeping curious visitors from nibbling the live coffee plants on display.

Speaking of coffee, Howard Schultz, Starbucks CEO, had to go without a bonus last year. He made a measly $9.7 million, down from $12.6 million. Usually we’d suggest those in money trouble should consider cutting back on spendy coffee drinks, but that might just make Howard’s problems worse. Maybe he could supplement his salary by giving tours at the Burke?

What happens in Vegas fills the state’s coffers. A state senator in Nevada would like to make prostitution legal in Reno and Las Vegas. Why? So they can tax it, of course.

Can’t you just picture it now? A woman in a slinky dress purrs, “That’ll be $112.72, with tax.”
