Prep bowling/wrestling: Everett first at district

EVERETT — The Everett girls bowling team won its third straight 3A/2A District 1 championship Tuesday at Glacier Lanes.

Everett captured the district’s lone berth in the Feb. 6-7 state meet at Narrows Plaza in University Place. The Seagulls placed seventh at state last season.

“If they put their games together, they’ll do well,” Cascade coach Ron Hicks said. “There are some strong teams down south but it’s definitely possible for them to do well.”

Senior co-captain Brianna Kinman led Everett with a 201 game, a 214 game and a 566 series. Shelbi Douty had a 213 game and a 538 series. Other team members include senior co-captain Jennifer Beck, Kelsey Holmes and Jessica Ralston.

Everett posted a team score of 2,463 pins. Anacortes was second with 1,856. Ferndale placed third with 1,650.

Wrestling

Oak Harbor 48, Cascade 24: At Oak Harbor, senior Brian Howard, who was coming off an injury, started the night with a pin in 1 minute, 12 seconds for Oak Harbor on senior night in the 285-pound class. The Wildcats’ Zach Loescher also won by pin in the 171-pound class in 3:29, giving Oak Harbor the Wesco North win.

Stanwood 37, Marysville-Pilchuck 29: At Stanwood, Stanwood’s Brad Gee scored the quickest pin of the night, winning at 189 pounds in 29 seconds in the Wesco North meet.

Meridian Tri-Meet: At Bellingham, Granite Falls won all three non-league meets. Granite Falls’ Zach Jones pinned his opponent in all three of his matches at 215 pounds and Brycn Lopez (125) also added three wins for the Tigers, who defeated Lynden 36-33, Meridian 51-15 and Burlington 45-36.
