Huskies finishing strong
Since Oregon cut the lead down to 14, Washington has outscored the Ducks 15-6 to put the game away, and it’s now 100-77 with 1:46 left.
The Huskies now have four players that have scored 20 or more—Isaiah Thomas has 24, Jon Brockman and Justin Dentmon have 21, and Quincy Pondexter has 20.
Brockman also matched a career-high with 18 rebounds, and Pondexter also had a double-double with 10 rebounds.
Tajuan Porter now has 33 in the game, a season high for him, after scoring just six in the first half.
Be back after the game with some quotes and notes.
UW lead down to 14
It’s now 85-71 with 5:26 left in the game, as Oregon has finally started hitting some shots against a Washington team that is missing some of it’s first-half intensity.
Tajuan Porter, who had six points on two of 10 shooting in the first half, has 22 points in the second half on seven of 10 shooting. The Ducks, who didn’t make a three in the first half, have hit eight in the second half.
The best news for the Huskies this half is the play of Jon Brockman, who now has 19 points and 15 rebounds. He had just five and five in the first half.
Washington 67, Oregon 49, 11:30 left in the second half
Washington’s not in any danger of blowing this game, but the Huskies aren’t exactly playing an inspired second half. That might not be too bad for Washington, however, as it will give Lorenzo Romar something to get on the team about in case the players starting getting over-confident.
Justin Dentmon is back in the game after taking a little break, he leads the team with 16 points. If he can score a bit more he might earn himself Pac-10 player of the week honors, which would be a first for a Husky this year. Jon Brockman has a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Washington 49, Oregon 25, halftime
It looks like the Huskies are well on their way to a one-and-a-half game lead in the Pac-10 thanks to Arizona’s win over UCLA earlier today.
The Huskies are playing well and seem to have avoided overlook the Ducks, though even if they had overlooked the Ducks, I’m pretty sure they’d still be up 10 at half.
Justin Dentmon continues to play out of his mind, and has 14 points on five of seven shooting. Isaiah Thomas is four for four from the field and has 10 points, pretty much all of which has come on drives to the basket.
The Huskies shot 55.2 percent in the half compared to 35.5 percent for Oregon, and Washington has also out-rebounded the Ducks 20-15. Oregon’s leading scorer, Tajuan Porter, has just six points and is two for 10 from the field.
This is the most first half-points the Huskies have scored this year, and also their biggest first-half lead.
Washington 25, Oregon 16, 7:27 remaining in the first half
Washington has come close to burying the Ducks a few times in the first half, but so far Oregon has at least managed to keep it somewhat close by battling back every time Washington starts to pull away.
Oh wait, looks like you can disregard what I just wrote. In the last minute and eight seconds, Washing has gone on a 7-0 run to make it 32-16. I got a feeling this game could get out of hand pretty soon, as Oregon seems to be living down to its 0-12 Pac-10 record.
Huskies jump ahead early
For a team looking for its first Pac-10 win, the last thing Oregon wanted was to dig itself an early hole on the road, but that’s exactly what the Ducks have done here at Hec Ed.
Washington has forced Oregon into three turnovers… wait, there was No. 4, and the Huskies are now up 8-0 in the early going.
Good work by the Dawgpack, by the way, which had some pregame fun with Oregon coach Ernie Kent, making signs that spelled out “Be my Valentine?” Even Kent seemed to get a laugh out of it.
