You can’t take Fido with you: A Seattle lawmaker has proposed legislation that would allow cemeteries to make the call on whether pet remains could be buried with their owners. The same legislator, Rep. Ken Jacobsen, D-Animal Planet, also wanted laws relaxed so that pet owners could take their dogs inside taverns.
Jacobsen apparently believes if you can’t take your dog to a bar to bury your sorrows, you should at least be allowed to go to your cemetery to bury your dog.
One for the books: On this day in history:
In 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte marries Josephine de Beauharnais. The couple are registered at Crate &Barrel but are disappointed when no one gets them the espresso maker they had picked out.
In 1954, Edward R. Murrow criticizes Sen. Joe McCarthy’s red-baiting on CBS’ “See It Now.” Fifty-five years later, CBS’ “The Early Show” demonstrates how to make the perfect omelet.
In 1959, Mattel’s Barbie doll makes its debut at a toy fair in New York City. Five-year-old boys across the country will celebrate Barbie’s 50th birthday today by giving their sisters’ dolls a haircut and making them ride on the family dog.
In 1999, RJR Nabisco announces it is getting out of the cigarette business. It immediately puts on 20 pounds.
