Don’t go green

Published 10:37 pm Thursday, March 12, 2009

Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day, and you know what that means: corned beef in the stew pot, the Chieftains on the stereo and Guinness — actually, a Guinness-style stout brewed fresh locally — in the glass.

If you’d rather go out, The Herald’s got the lowdown on what’s going on at Snohomish County’s Irish-themed pubs.

We at The Buzz would like to make a heartfelt plea for St. Paddy’s Day: We’re OK with Irish food (well, except for canned peas). But please, we beseech you: Don’t dye the beer green.

Speaking of libations: Utah, the state where the 18th Amendment was only kinda-sorta repealed, has decided to lighten up on some of its more peculiar liquor laws.

We Washingtonians shouldn’t be too smug. The California diaspora among us think our liquor laws are a Prohibition hangover, too.

Bye, Bernie: Confessed swindler Bernard Madoff was led away in handcuffs to a 7-by-8-foot jail cell today.

We hope his roommate in the joint will be Brutus the 300-pound weightlifter, but we’ll settle for one of the guys behind credit default swaps.
