Arlington: Police department gets grant
The city of Arlington has received $15,851 from the federal Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program.
The police department plans to use the money for team training and the purchase of equipment, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.
“Team training, which prepares people to respond to large events, takes a lot more effort and more money. The grant will be well used,” Banfield said.
Everett: FEMA help deadline is March 31
People whose property or businesses were damaged because of flooding in January still can apply to get help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Apply by calling 800-621-3362 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or register at www.disasterassistance.gov.
The deadline to register for disaster assistance is March 31.
Everett: Academy to host open house
Everett Community College’s Ocean Research College Academy, better known as ORCA, will host an open house at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Applied Technology Training Center, 2333 Seaway Blvd., Everett.
ORCA is an early college academy for high school students, who can earn up to two years of college credit free while completing their high school education. Most students graduate with an associate degree in addition to a high school diploma.
The program is the only early college academy of its kind in the country. ORCA uses the marine environment as the theme for all academic disciplines.

Granite Falls: School budget review planned
The Granite Falls School District is hosting a community forum at 6 p.m. March 24 at Mountain Way Elementary School to provide an update on budget reductions expected because of a projected state revenue deficit.
Over the past two months, an overview of the school budget and potential budget cuts has been offered at staff meetings and community forums.
Based on that feedback, a list of priorities has been developed to best maintain services and programs for students. Parents, residents and business leaders are encouraged to attend to review the priorities.
Lynnwood: Nominate students for award
The Lynnwood Rotary Club is looking for nominees for its Youth Challenge Awards. The awards honor students in seventh through 12th grades for community service, courage, creativity, environmental service, inspiration, leadership and group work.
The Rotary Club wants to recognize student contributions that usually do not make headlines but are worthy of attention.
The nomination deadline is March 31.
