Insanely late
Apple unveiled new software for the iPhone and iPod Touch that will let users do cool, cutting-edge stuff like … cut and paste text.
Cut and paste text? The Buzz recalls performing that exotic function on a Macintosh Plus back when Ronald Reagan was still in the White House and Macs cost more than $2,000 … oh, wait a minute: They still do.
What’s next for the iPhone? A 300-baud modem and dial-up access to CompuĀServe? A filing system for your recipes? A spreadsheet that makes pie charts?

Scuttled ideas dept.: The state may be strapped for cash, but it still has some standards. The Legislature deep-sixed a plan Tuesday to sell naming rights for its fleet of ferries.
Apparently, lawmakers didn’t care for the idea of a ferry called the M.V. RustOleum.

Cybermodel: Researchers in Japan unveiled a robot with a female face that can smile and frown.
They plan to present the black-haired robot with the fetching name of HRP-4C during a fashion show, and are still fine- tuning systems that allow her to smoke cigarettes, shoot heroin and purge after eating.
But HRP-4C’s creators still have a problem: at 5 feet 2 inches, she’s way too short for a modeling career.
