EDMONDS — Strong pitching, strong defense, and key hits were the recipe for success in Edmonds-Woodway’s 5-3 win over Lynnwood Wednesday in the Wesco South baseball game.
E-W starting pitcher Derek Callahan pitched a complete game, allowing three runs while striking out three and walking two. Callahan threw 94 pitches and was near the end of his pitch count before getting the final out.
“He was at his last batter,” E-W head coach Dan Somoza said, “and the low walks were a big key. He pitched a great game the whole entire game. He was keeping the ball down and mixing his pitches up well. Even to hold them to three runs is pretty good. They are a good hitting team.”
E-W’s big hits were Austin Jones’ two-out, two-run double in the third and Blaine Liukko’s RBI single in the fifth, which gave the Warriors a one-run lead. Quinn Naughtin batted 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Jason Lotzer batted 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
