PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP

MILL CREEK — When you keep the ball down, good things are bound to happen.

Jackson sophomore left-handed pitcher Nick Kiel did that and helped lead Jackson to a 2-0 Western Conference South Division win over visiting Mountlake Terrace.

Kiel, who faced just two more than the minimum for batters faced, struck out six, walked one and was aided by two double plays by the Jackson defense.

“He kept the ball down and did a fantastic job,” Jackson head coach Kirk Nicholson said.

Kennedy Kincade led off the second inning with a triple and Kyle Olson followed with a sacrifice fly to center to give the Timberwolves a 1-0 lead. In the fourth, Jackson loaded the bases with no outs, but Terrace pitcher Ryan Sells escaped by giving up an unearned run following an error by the shortstop.

“Their (Terrace) pitcher did a great job also,” Nicholson said. “He threw his ball really well against us.”

Terrace was unable to move a runner into scoring position until Matt Shafer doubled in the fourth inning. The Hawks never advanced a runner to third base.
