Arlington: Volunteers needed at Kids’ Kloset

Volunteers are needed to help Arlington Kids’ Kloset prepare clothing for display and help children from low-income families pick out school wardrobes.

The nonprofit organization is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Wednesday evenings at 135 S. French St.

The clothing closet is closed in June and July.

Volunteers usually work a three-hour shift weekly or twice a month.

Popular chicken dinner set for Sunday

Stillaguamish Senior Center volunteers plan to serve an old-fashioned chicken dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd., Arlington.

The dinner includes chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw, vegetables, and dessert, with coffee, tea or juice. Entertainment by Gary Lee Hood is scheduled.

Cost is $8, $7 for seniors, $5 for children.

The center also needs a volunteer cook for its Friday bingo time.

Shred documents to support scholarship

The second annual Shred Event by the Knights of Columbus is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Parish, 1200 E. Fifth St., Arlington.

For $5 per box or bag, people can have sensitive papers, folders and computer disks shredded. Staples are OK.

Proceeds support a Knights of Columbus scholarship for a graduating high school senior planning to attend a vocational-technical school.

Stanwood: Cats fixed, two for price of one

The nonprofit NOAH Animal Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center near Stanwood is offering a special on spay and neuter surgeries for cats.

Throughout April and May, low-income owners of cats can pay for a birth control surgery on one animal and have the surgery performed for free for another.

Drunken-driving casualty drill today

Stanwood High School and Stanwood Camano Fire Department, along with other emergency response agencies, plan to run a drunken-driving consequences drill at 9 a.m. today in the Stanwood High School football field.

Deputy Fire Chief Darin Reid said the mock car collision, which demonstrates the consequences of driving drunk, would not happen without the people who volunteer.
