MUKILTEO — In a battle of undefeated Wesco South teams, the Kamiak boys soccer squad proved victorious Friday at Kamiak High School.

The Knights (5-0-0 league, 7-5-0 overall) won 2-0 against Mountlake Terrace (3-1-1, 6-4-2) to remain tied with Shorecrest for first place in the division.

“The boys played pretty well tonight,” said Kamiak coach Garfield Scott. “It was evenly matched all the way through, but all the chances we had, we took them.”

Junior midfielder/forward Tyler Hawkinson scored off a corner kick by Kyle Watts in the 21st minute to put Kamiak on the scoreboard.

With three minutes remaining in the game, junior midfielder Watts scored an unassisted goal from 10 yards out when the ball rebounded off a Mountlake Terrace player. Scott said it was a case of being in the right place at the right time.
