MONROE — The Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks made school history, and in doing so ended a soccer dynasty in the Western Conference North Division.
Behind a Seth Jones goal and assist the Tomahawks shut out Monroe 2-0 Friday night in Monroe, clinching the school’s first-ever Wesco North title.
The Tomahawks (12-0-2 overall) victory also meant that the Snohomish Panthers would not be winning the North for the first time in a decade.
Marysville-Pilchuck goalkeeper Kyle Bloom held the Bearcats (9-5-0) in check.
Terrence Johnson scored the Tomahawks first goal in the 17th minute on a Jones assist. Jones scored the second goal of the evening in the 39th minute on a Brady Bellew assist.
Lake Stevens 3, Everett 0: At Lake Stevens, after a slow start, Lake Stevens hit its stride in the second half to seal a Wesco North win over Everett (2-12-0 overall) and earn a spot in the 4A District 1 playoffs.
“We had a hard time scoring at first,” said Lake Stevens head coach Scott Flanders. “I was really impressed with the effort (by Everett). They played a lot better than the last time we played them (when the Vikings won 7-0).”
Although Lake Stevens (9-5-0) had plenty of opportunities to score in the first half, it wasn’t until the 30th minute that Lake Steven’s Nick Bylin, a junior midfielder, gave the Vikings the lead with an unassisted goal.
Senior forward Johnny Hollaway solidified the lead with a goal in the 72nd minute off a Vasily Bogdanoff assist, and senior defender Scotty DeOliveira (Hollaway assist) added the third and final goal in the 76th minute.
“Our defense and goalkeeper has been doing a good job lately,” said Flanders. “This is our second shutout in a row.”
Michael Pierce earned the shutout in net for Lake Stevens. Everett’s goalkeeper was not reported.
“We had a good week,” said Flanders. “We scored 15 goals this week in three games. We’re looking forward to the postseason.”
Snohomish 3, Oak Harbor 0: At Snohomish, Connor Moe scored unassisted in the ninth minute, Brendan Gundry scored on a Travis Olsen assist in the 40th minute and Carson Pingrey’s assist to Sean Schaller in the 55th minute helped Snohomish (11-3-1 conference, 11-3-1 overall) get past Oak Harbor (5-9-0, 5-9-0) in the Wesco North game. Cody Melander recorded the shutout in goal for the Panthers.
Stanwood 2, Arlington 1: At Arlington, Stanwood scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the Wesco North game.Carlos Llorente scored the game-winner for the Spartans (2-12-1 league and overall). Jake Smith scored an unassisted goal for Arlington (6-8-0). Corbin Anderson was in goal for the Eagles.
Jackson 1, Kamiak 0: At Everett, Tye Hastings scored in the 29th minute on a Devin Mendiola assist for the only goal of the game to knock off Kamiak (6-1-0 conference, 8-6-0 overall), which came into the game undefeated and in first place in the Wesco South. Eric Hodel got the shutout for Jackson (4-1-2, 10-2-2).

Edmonds-Woodway 0, Lynnwood 0 (2 OT): At Edmonds, Edmonds-Woodway outshot Lynnwood 16-4, but the Warriors couldn’t get through the packed in Royals defense in a Wesco South match. Erik Whitney was the goalkeeper for Edmonds-Woodway (2-2-3 league, 6-5-3 overall) and Emiliano Suarez stopped 12 shots on goal for Lynnwood (0-6-1, 0-13-1), who earned their first point of the season.
Shorecrest 2, Shorewood 1: At Shoreline, Glenn Paden collected a loose ball near the penalty box and crossed a pass to freshman Ian Adams, who one-timed it for the winning goal in the 71st minute, keeping Shorecrest undefeated in the Wesco South at 7-0-0, 13-1-0 overall. Shorecrest’s Jeremy Novack scored the first goal on an assist by Eli Blauser in the eighth minute. Shorewood’s (1-3-3, 7-3-4) goal was on a free kick from 19 yards out by Peter Odel in the 50th minute. Dorian Lair was Shorewood’s goalie, and Eric Baker manned the goal for Shorecrest.
Glacier Peak 2, Mariner 0: At Everett, Glacier Peak (1-4-2 league, 5-7-2 overall) led 2-0 when Mariner (1-6-0, 2-12-0) was forced to forfeit the game at the end of the first half. After being red-carded, the Mariner coach refused to leave the field, causing the referees to end the contest.
