EVERETT — Jackson Elementary School in Everett is expected to be closed through Wednesday because officials are concerned a student may have the H1N1 flu virus, also called swine flu.
Jackson Principal Janelle Phinney announced the closure Saturday in a message to parents.
The school will remain closed longer if the case is confirmed. There is no indication that the student picked up the flu at school or spread it to others, Phinney said.
Elsewhere in the state, nine more probable cases of swine flu were reported on Saturday, bringing to 25 the number of probable cases in five counties.
The state Department of Health reports that 15 of the probable cases are in King County, which includes Seattle; six are in Snohomish County and one in Skagit County; one is in Pierce County, which includes Tacoma; and two are in Spokane County.
None of the cases has been confirmed, but Health Department spokesman Tim Church says the state should get formal test results back from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention early next week. He says the state’s lab is testing samples over the weekend.
