SHOREWOOD — After losing a one-run game to Everett on Wednesday, the Lynnwood softball team faced a loser-out situation against Meadowdale on Thursday and emerged with a 3-0 victory in the Class 3A District 1 tournament.
Lynnwood capitalized on strong pitching by senior Julia Nealer, who struck out 17 and walked one and advanced to play Mount Vernon in a loser-out game on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Meadowdale broke up Nealer’s bid for a no-hitter with a single at the top of the seventh.
“It was a great bounce back after last night’s loss to Everett,” said Lynnwood coach Matt Rockne. “The girls came out really determined today to get back to our winning ways.”
The Royals scored on an error in the first inning and junior Chloe Goudzwaard (2-for-3) hit an RBI double in the second. Lynnwood scored its third run in the fifth inning off sophomore Kelsie Mason’s single.
