PREP NOTEBOOK: M-P forward Crenshaw commits to Seattle U.

After he’s done being a Tomahawk, John Crenshaw plans to be a Redhawk.
A high-scoring junior on the nationally ranked Marysville-Pilchuck High School boys soccer team, Crenshaw verbally committed about a month ago to play for Seattle University, his mother said Friday.
“We love the program that they have. The coaches are fantastic, and I really, really wanted him to stay close” to home, Sherri Crenshaw said.
John Crenshaw has a team-leading 21 goals and nine assists this season for unbeaten Marysville-Pilchuck (18-0-2), which advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals with a 3-2 shootout victory over Issaquah Saturday at Lake Stevens High. Crenshaw scored M-P’s first goal in the game and later connected in the shootout for the Tomahawks, tied for No. 16 in the nation in the May 12 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas rankings.
M-P plays South Kitsap 6 p.m. on Friday in the 4A semifinals.
Seattle University coaches became interested in Crenshaw after he attended a Redhawks camp last summer, Sherri Crenshaw said. Other programs that have shown interest in Crenshaw include St. Mary’s College, Seattle Pacific University and California State University Fullerton.
Verbal commitments are non-binding. Crenshaw and other Class of 2010 prep soccer players can’t sign an NCAA National Letter of Intent until February.
Crenshaw plays select soccer for Snohomish United. His skills have improved significantly during his two years with the club under the guidance of coach Gary Harris, Sherri Crenshaw said.
E-W goalie signs
Edmonds-Woodway goalkeeper Nick Kratzke will play soccer for Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Ore. The senior helped E-W advance to the 4A District 1 tournament.

Which local team will win it all?
In a recent poll on Heraldnet.com, readers were asked “Which local team has the best chance to win a spring state title?” The Archbishop Murphy baseball squad received the most votes (21 percent), but the Wildcats were eliminated Saturday in the 2A Region 1 tournament. The Shorecrest boys soccer team got the second-most votes (19 percent). The Scots won Saturday and advanced to the 3A state semifinals.
Always thinking of coach
Every time he plays, Kamiak baseball player Chris Guinn pays tribute to former Knights assistant coach Jim Geiger. Guinn, a junior, always keeps a small photo of Geiger, who died in December 2007, in his cap. Sometimes before he hits, Guinn glances at the picture and reminds himself to compete hard in honor of Geiger. “He just really related to kids,” said Guinn. “If a kid needed a glove, the next day the kid would have a glove.”
Physicals offered in Oak Harbor
