How can we miss you if you won’t go away? Jay Leno said goodbye to “The Tonight Show,” Friday night after 17 years at the desk. But rather than retire to Malibu as Johnny Carson did, Leno’s simply moving 90 minutes earlier on NBC’s schedule.

Scientists are concerned however that as Leno’s show moves to an earlier and earlier time slot, and NBC’s “Today” show runs later and later, the collision of the two could cause the freak formation of a Jay Leno-Matt Lauer hybrid.

Octo-bomb: Pennsylvania state officials are investigating the TLC reality series, “Jon &Kate Plus 8” to see if it’s complying with child labor laws. Adding to concerns are reports that Jon and Kate Gosselin’s marriage is in trouble.

But should the couple split, TLC has announced it has found a suitable foster home for the eight children and will rename the series “Jay &Matt Plus 8.”

It has a certain ring to it: With its stock hitting 75 cents a share and bankruptcy looming for General Motors, the troubled automaker has plans to remake itself by retooling a factory that will build subcompact cars that appeal to cost-conscious consumers.

The new cars will be named the Chevy Civic and the Buick Corolla.
