As a previous letter writer said, “What is wrong with you people?” (May 1 letter, “We must prevent future terrorism.”)

If torture doesn’t work, how come so many witches and heretics confessed during the Spanish Inquisition and great witch hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries? Matthew Hopkins was a master at getting confessions. After all, we are doing the work of God, right?
