ARLINGTON — Police are investigating a man who reportedly tried to rape a woman Tuesday night.

A Lake Stevens woman, 35, called police about 11:20 p.m. to a motel in the 17300 block of Smokey Point Drive, Arlington spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. The woman told officers a 42-year-old man tried to rape her and held her against her will in his motel room.

The woman and the suspect knew each other.

The woman fought back and managed to escape. She called for help.

The suspect fled and jumped in a cab. Skagit County sheriff’s deputies arrested him a few hours later, Banfield said. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail.

The woman was being evaluated and treated at a local hospital Wednesday.
