Everett: Sign up for Youth Symphony
Everett Youth Symphony is looking for new members. Young people up to age 21 are invited to audition.
Needed are those who play violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion.
Auditions for the 2009-10 season are on Sept. 3, 4 and 5 at Kamiak High School Performing Arts Center, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo.

Lake Stevens: Artist reception this week
A reception for Seattle artist April Richardson, who has an exhibit on display at Lake Stevens City Hall, is planned for Thursday.
The event is 5 to 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1812 Main St.
Richardson’s show is titled “My Wild Garden,” an exhibit of colorful mixed-media art. It may be seen from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at City Hall through September.

Lynnwood: Bead show coming up
More than 50 venders will show their wares during the Northwest Bead Society’s 21st Annual Bead Bazaar Sept. 12 and 13 at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW.
The convention runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Parking is free and admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under.

Snohomish: Library event celebrates toys
The Snohomish Library will celebrate the end of its summer reading program at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 with an event called “Wonder and Joy in a Homemade Toy.”
Toymaker Rick Hartman is scheduled to share the wonders of creativity, invention and discovery.
Based on his book “The Making of Superpin,” the performance includes playful poetry, funny demonstrations and a project. The program is for school-age children.
Children also may bring their completed summer reading logs to receive a free book and a coupon to Imagine Children’s Museum in Everett; they will also be eligible for a drawing for a new bike.
The library is at 311 Maple Ave.
