Motola, an elephant in Thailand, has been fitted with an artificial limb 10 years after she was injured by a land mine.

When they operated on Motola, doctors administered enough anesthetic to knock out 70 people, or roughly three members of the original cast of “Saturday Night Live.”

Parents these days: Frightened by horror stories on TV about molestations, some parents will not allow their children to sleep over at friends’ homes.

Instead, parents will hop into the minivan to fetch their children at bedtime. One mom in Florida told the Associated Press she doesn’t know any families well enough to trust them with her daughter’s safety.

In a related story, researchers report that incidences of spooky story-telling, uncontrollable giggling and “truth or dare” games dipped by 13 percent in 2008.
